***We are a body of believers united by our desire to follow Jesus Christ. We are committed to fulfilling His purpose for our lives, supported by the entire Higher Ground church family.
***Our church is made up of ordinary people from all walks of life who understand the need to continually rely on God to get through our daily lives. We are here to connect other people with God and to connect with each other.
***Although some of us may dress informally and our Worship services are contemporary in style, we have the utmost reverence for the power of God and the sacredness of His Word. Our main goal is and will always be to glorify the Lord and exalt Him in true worship.
***At Higher Ground, what we believe, our guiding principles, our preaching and teaching, and our Praise and Worship ministry is firmly seated and informed by the inspired Word of God as revealed to us in the Holy Bible
***This is a wear-your-jeans, bring-your-coffee, all-out-Worship-to-God kind of church where you can be yourself and know that you are loved. We invite you to visit us and check us out for yourself!
Seeds of Faith... how we began and where we are now
Higher Ground Baptist Church began as one man’s obedience to a burden that God had put in his heart to reach out to people in New England and show them the love, mercy, and grace of God. Pastor George Jackman and his lovely wife Sherry, who are originally from Amesbury, MA, took the leap of faith to move with their three children to Northwood from Port Charlotte, FL where George was ordained. Heeding the Lord’s call to return to New England to plant a church, the Jackmans began holding church services in their new home in late 2006. It was clear that George’s powerful preaching and sharing was connecting with the surrounding community, as we quickly outgrew the Jackman's kitchen (Visit the Meet our Pastor page to learn more). Higher Ground became incorporated in Jan. 2007, and were blessed to be able to worship every Sunday at the Northwood Elementary School until Palm Sunday, 2008 when we held our first service at our new location at 100 Old Turnpike Rd (Rt. 4) in Nottingham. Our building currently has a worship hall on the 1st floor where services are held and Children's Church is facilitated on the 2nd floor. The property consists of 20+ beautiful acres that will include two athletic fields and a nature walking trail. We certainly have experienced God's blessing through this whole process and our fellowship family continues to grow.

Red Densmore and his wife, Karen are also part of the founding core of Higher Ground. Red has spent the better part of 30 years serving our Lord in New England based ministries and is excited to soon introduce J.O.B.S.today ministries where we will be matching God's people's skills and abilities with the needs of our community. Brother Red brings a wealth of practical experience and creative energy to the HGBC ministry.
There are so many people who serve at Higher Ground, each wearing different hats at different times to serve the Lord in all kinds of ways. God has drawn together a wonderfully diverse group of individuals with many different gifts to serve the Kingdom needs of Nottingham and the surrounding communities not just on Sunday, but every day.
Lord, we praise You and give You the Glory because You love us in spite of our short-comings. We praise You for starting Higher Ground Baptist Church and for inviting us to join You in doing Your work in Nottingham and beyond. Help us to use our talents and gifts to serve and honor You.
